A New Way of Being Church
Not every faith community begins in a church building.

New Worshiping Communities are gatherings of people discovering and following Jesus together in ways that fit their unique context. Some meet around dinner tables, in coffee shops, community centers, neighborhoods, online, or through shared passions and ministries.

Part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), New Worshiping Communities are rooted in Christian faith while creating fresh spaces for worship, belonging, service, and spiritual growth. Their goal is simple: to help people encounter God's love and build authentic community where they live and work. These communities take many forms, but they share a common commitment to following Christ, welcoming others, and seeking the flourishing of their neighbors.

The New Worshiping Communities movement believes that the church can thrive beyond traditional models and buildings. By listening to the needs, hopes, and cultures of local communities, these new expressions of church create spaces where people can connect with God and one another in meaningful ways.

Catalyst Youth Ministry
Indianapolis

The Catalyst New Worshipping Community is an Indianapolis gathering of young people with Christ. A catalyst is something that changes the rate of a chemical reaction but is itself unchanged at the end of the process. This is like God because He never changes but changes the world around Him. Catalyst invites young people to do an activity (like a sport, art, or service) while focusing on Bible stories and verses. This focus on the Bible changes the activity by giving it a deeper meaning. We are a youth-led NWC that focuses on young people claiming their identity as children of God through deep discussions and connections that carry forward beyond the summer; interacting with God in a new way – not just passively listening, but actively thinking and sharing with each other; and confidently step into their role as leaders of the faith, by serving others, creating beauty, and seeking health in God’s name.
Bluffton Latino Ministry
Bluffton

The Bluffton Latino New Worshiping Community is currently in a season of discernment and assessment through First Presbyterian Church in Bluffton. This emerging ministry is exploring how the church can build meaningful relationships with Spanish-speaking Latino families in the community through hospitality, language learning, and mutual accompaniment. Spanish classes for potential volunteers and English as a Second Language classes for Latino participants are helping identify community needs, leadership possibilities, and spiritual openness. Through this process, we are listening for how God may be calling us to form a new worshiping community rooted in welcome, faith, and shared life.
