Part-Time Building Manager
Purpose: Act as the steward of FMHPC’s physical property, ensuring the building and grounds are safe, clean, properly maintained, and fully functional for ministry, worship, and community use.
Hours and Compensation: An average of 10 hours weekly, paid $25 per hour. Not eligible for benefits. Pay schedule is twice a month.
Duties and Responsibilities Maintenance Upkeep:
• Develop a working knowledge of the history and maintenance needs of our current church systems such as the boiler, air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical.
• Ensure/coordinate preventative maintenance of those systems through contractors/vendors.
• Regularly assess the building for potential maintenance/safety issues and perform or oversee repairs as needed.
• Serve as the point of contact for external vendors (landscapers, cleaners, repairmen).
Operational Support for Events:
• Coordinate with ministry leaders to prepare spaces for Sundays, weekday programs, weddings, funerals, and special events, including setup and teardown.
• Ensure outside groups (AA, NA, Girl Scouts, etc.) have access to appropriate spaces, furnishings, and equipment.
Safety and Security
• Ensure the building is secure by managing opening/locking procedures, monitoring security systems, and conducting regular safety audits.
• Work with staff and leaders to ensure the safety and security of the premises and of those using the premises (including preparedness and response plans for fire, active shooters, and other concerns).
Administrative
• Attend staff meetings as requested (in person or remotely).
• Attend Buildings and Grounds Committee Meetings and assist in developing the Buildings and Ground budget each year.
SUNDAY ON-SITE 8:00 am to 12:30 pm
• Open building, check heat/air systems, ensure safe entry and exit (de-icing, debris removal).
• Handle unexpected situations re: building, safety, persons seeking assistance, or first aid.
Relationships: Accountable to the Pastor, as Head of Staff, and the Building and Grounds Committee in the performance of his/her responsibilities.
Required: Proven experience in facility maintenance or a related trade. Ability to perform physical work, including lifting (often up to 40 lbs), climbing ladders, and working in various weather conditions. Basic computer skills for managing schedules, emails, budgets, and inventories. Strong interpersonal skills for working with staff, parishioners, and vendors. Commitment to welcoming and supporting all persons including the LGBTQIA+ community and persons of color.
