Part of our connection to the ministry of our partners in Mexico is through their
church buildings. Our partner congregations in Norther Quintana Roo Presbytery
(NQR) approach the task of constructing their church building with faith, planning
and patience. Mission trip crews from Whitewater Valley Presbytery travel to Mexico
every summer to assist their partner cogregation in NQR, working during the day on
constuction and then helping conduct Vacation Bible School in the evening.
"I had a wonderful experience doing construction. Even though some of the
people we worked with primarily spoke Spanish and I only speak English, we were able to
communicate. It's amazing how you can do that without words- a smile, a high five, a laugh,
a frown, a finger pointing you in the right direction. We were able to help build part of a
church- a structure that so many of us take for granted. I feel that it's very important
for people to have a place to worship together. Most homes down there do not allow for
that to happen. By helping to construct a church building in which people can worship,
we are helping to build the Church universal."

"In July of 2005 volunteers from Northminster Presbyterian Church helped
build a concrete block wall along the boundry of the site of the future Prince of Peace
Church in Cancun. The following hurricanes that summer unfortunately destroyed the wall
and caused damage to many homes in the neighborhood. When we returned in July of 2006,
our challenge was to rebuild the very wall we had been so proud of only a year before!
To me, it seemed to give us a small taste of the challenges and setbacks these people
face so frequently. I witnessed again the faith and determination of the members of
this congregation, whom I now very fondly think of as extended family members. These
people have shown me the true meaning of trust in the Lord. I have observed their
faith that our needs will be satisfied by God. Their simple existance is daily proof
that everything we have is a gift from God - from our talents to our good fortune.
While I can just give effort, sweat, and a few days of my year - they restore my
faith in the power of God's love for us."
