NQR Commission

We are grateful for a wonderful visit from the NQR commission March 2-9, 2009. The commission members were hosted by families from Zionsville, John Knox and Northminster churches At the retreat between the commission and representatives from the WVP partner churches, the coordinator Josue Chan shared a chart with the progress each of the churches is making towards becoming chartered (El Buen Pastor, in Playa del Carmen, has already been chartered, and so it is not on the chart).

The commission had meetings with many people in the presbytery, including representatives from sixteen WVP churches, the First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs (which is interested in participating in the partnership) and members of the presbytery staff . The commission also attended the March 7 Presbytery meeting in Pyoca. Members of the Hispanic Ministries Lead Team held several meetings with the NQR commission to look towards the future of the partnership. Among the areas of growth, both groups agreed to consider ways to offer leadership training to the lay leaders working alongside planters in NQR, and to consider ways in which the NQR leaders can support the start up work at the bilingual bicultural worship community nesting in John Knox.

Members of the NQR Church Planting Commission visited WVP in March. Pictured above are: Larry Larew (Zionsville), Leopoldo Hernández (NQR), Ismael Herrera (NQR), Josué Chan (NQR), Barry Sumner (Zionsville) and Isrrael Méndez (NQR).

The partnership with NQR includes supporting the training of the church planters. These are the planters and their families at the October 2008 planter training co-sponsored by Northern Quintana Roo and Whitewater Valley Presbyteries. The guest speakers were Rev. Edwin Andrade and his wife Karina, from the new Presbyterian church “Nueva Rivera” in Sterling, Virginia.
